I JOHN 5:13 - These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
These things = the scripture! Scripture was written so that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life! How exciting is that? God's Word was written for the express purpose of leading man back to God. It's a roadmap if you will.
I'd like to share with you how YOU can KNOW that you have eternal life. Some have called this the ROMANS ROAD. Those who travel it are NEVER the same.
I ask you first this question. If you were to die today, are you 100% sure you'd go to Heaven? You can be sure and here's how.
1. Realize that you are a sinner. Romans 3:10 "As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one. NO NOT ONE, include you and I. We ARE NOT righteous. But WHY? Because we have all sinned. Sin is breaking God's laws. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God". ALL includes you and me.
2. Sin has a price! Romans 6:23a "For the Wages of Sin is death. This word death refers to the SECOND DEATH, where the soul is eternally separated from God in a place called Hell. A literal burning Hell. Revelation 20:14-15 "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." If you and I choose to pay for our sin ourselves, the only payment is an eternity in Hell!
3. Jesus Paid the Price. Romans 6:23b "BUT THE GIFT OF GOD is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord." Several things to realize in this portion of scripture. First, eternal life is a gift. What do we know about gifts? They are free to the receipient. If the receipient paid anything for it, it ceases to be a gift. ETERNAL LIFE IS A FREE GIFT. Just like a gift, you can choose to accept it or you can choose to refuse it. If I purchase a gift for you and offer it to you, but you refuse, is it yours? I think not. It's the same with God's gift of eternal life. It's offered to you, but if you refuse, it is NOT yours and your future is HELL. The second thing we realize in this verse is that this gift is "through Jesus Christ our Lord". Through = paid for by. This gift was paid for by the Lord Jesus Christ when He shed His precious blood on the cross. Just like that gift I mentioned earlier, it is free to the receipient, but the GIFT GIVER had to pay a price. Jesus paid the price for this gift with His shed blood on Calvary.
4. This Gift is yours for the asking. Romans 10:13 - "For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the Name of the Lord, shall be saved"! Put your name in for WHOSOEVER. For (IF SUSIE) shall call upon the name of the Lord, she shall be saved! For (IF ROSS) shall call upon the name of the Lord, he shall be saved! WHOSOEVER means anybody! This gift is for EVERYBODY.
Will you accept it today? Let's review.
1. You are a Sinner
2. The Penalty for Sin is Hell
3. Jesus Paid for your sin
4. Call on Him, confessing that you are a sinner, and you SHALL BE SAVED!
SHALL BE SAVED is a promise. It means now, immediately, you shall be saved. Not in the future, but as soon as you accept His free gift of Salvation.
If you'd like to trust Christ and Him Alone as your Saviour, pray a prayer like this. Realize, it's not the prayer that saves you, but your simple faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did for you on the Cross, plus nothing else. We can do NOTHING for this gift or it ceases to be a gift.
Pray: Dear Jesus, I realize I am a sinner. I realize that because I'm a sinner, if I died right now, I'd go to Hell, which is what I deserve. Jesus, thank you for paying for my sin. By faith, I accept your free gift of eternal life, trusting in you and the blood you shed on the cross. Please forgive me of my sin and come into my heart to save me. Believing your Word, that if I'd call upon you, you'd save me, I thank you now for giving me ETERNAL LIFE.
